Startup Week Pitch Contest

Tuesday, April 2nd • 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Happy Valley Ventures will be hosting its second annual pitch contest during Startup Week in room 110 of the Business Building. Student-run startups will be competing for $3,500 in prizes. The deadline to enter is March 15th! The event is held in an effort to promote and foster innovation and entrepreneurship at Penn State while additionally giving students the opportunity to learn more about the inner-workings of the venture capital industry. Winners will receive prize money provided by the Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation & Entrepreneurship and consideration for follow-up early stage investment.

The contest, which is open to all student-run start-ups from the Penn State community, has three rounds. Start-up companies can enter at the bottom of this page by filling out the form at the link by March 15th. From there, the submissions are analyzed and discussed by the HVV Investment Committee members. If teams are selected to move onto the next round, they will then have the opportunity to meet with HVV Investment Committee members to receive advice and guidance in refining their business models and pitch decks. After another round of due diligence, the top five teams will be selected to move onto the final, public, pitch competition component of the event.

At the culminating event on April 2nd, the competitors will pitch their startups to a panel of venture capital professionals and experienced entrepreneurs. This will give student entrepreneurs the chance to receive feedback from industry professionals to help them reach new milestones in growing their businesses. Prizes of $2,500 and $1,000 will be awarded to the first place team and runner-up, respectively. This event is open to the public and all are welcome to stop by for all, or a portion, of the pitches.
